Autism

Autism and autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of illnesses that can cause impairment in cognitive, emotional aspects, socialization and language abilities.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can begin either at birth or anytime during the first two years and even later, that may be early onset or regressive. Most children with autism have a normal appearance. However, they may engage in behaviors that are different from that of typically developing kids.

Signs of ASD include:
Weak eye contact.
Unusual behaviors.
Absence of or delayed language.
Lack of social interaction with other children.
Impaired verbal and nonverbal communication.
Repetitive behaviors.
Learning difficulties.

Most autistic kids share those general aspects, but each child has his own manifestations, and so, comparison between cases is unfair as such as generalization.

Treatment plan should be made by the treating physician and parents. The aspects will include testing, treating the gut, giving basic supplements, solving any underlying causes detected by testing, and giving Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) which is one of the important aspects once decided.

In addition to biomedical treatment, it is advised that child should enrolled in a rehabilitation program that includes speech therapy, occupational therapy, and one-on-one educational program.
